Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 5:27 PMBad Ass to me sounds more like IN YOUR FACE ego trippin' whereas MLK and Portier I think of more as acting out of grounded integrity and strength of character. They walked forward in the face of diversity but did it with integrity and inner power.
I guess some may call that bad ass but personally I would give it a deeper more respectful name - especially when you compare them to others who are also called Bad Ass. In that I'm thinking of my heavy metal and D & D days and who we called bad ass, lol. -

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 9:01 PMNo.
Ed's Dictionary defintion:
Bad Ass: A person who goes above and beyond normal standards of society and him or herself to consistently make a significant impact despite extreme resistance. The person is deemed "bad" for going against current (though weak) status quo. The person is mocked as an "ass" for though going against current (though weak) status quo. The "bad ass" therefore a "good person" fighting for new and improved and stronger status quo by nearly all moral means necessary, even using his physical bad ass.
Similes: top gun, beast, advocate, savior
Metaphor: Ed
Sentence: Ed is a bad ass for telling his teacher that he is wrong when the teacher is indeed wrong and is proven wrong in front of the whole unresponsive fearful class. -

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 9:05 PMhaha....I see both your points as to the term. But using Ed's definition, I'd say...Carl Jung. apparently he's typed as INTJ in some sources, but I support the INFJ camp, without bias, obviously. -

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 8:10 PMmore like "smart asses"
Although I have corrected a teacher on occasion, when I do I feel very self conscious about it and how that made me look to the rest of the class, how it will isolate my interactions with others that will feel that I am a "know it all" and that will in turn make them feel that there is nothing that they can contribute to the conversation or subject or even my life, which is far from the truth.
I feel how the confrontation could be handled better because of the way the entire room cringes and how well the professor receives that message.
I think there is a better way to going about some things and I think when you get a "god complex' and think you are a "bass ass", you isolate yourself from others and create a feeling of disinterest. I personally have no interest in sharing a part of my thoughts or feelings with someone who likes to compete with others in a way that makes others uncomfortable or embarrassed. I would think, when is he going to do this to me?
So I highly doubt that an INFJ would ever call themselves a "bad ass" we realize all to well that we will never meet our own expectations and are over sensitive to the social isolation of arrogance.
I think T's do this a lot and I cringe every time. -

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 9:54 PMShif,
Every INFJ should know on the inside that he or she is a bad ass when he or she is right and did the right thing. -

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Sun, October 18, 2009 - 12:56 PMTrue, but to answer your question - they are generally not thought of as 'bad asses' (unless under some critical circumstances when people they interact with really need to convince themselves that they are as pure as crystal and the infj is not :); they are usually seen as people who are a a bit weird and somehow unpredictable and paradoxical. -
-
Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Sun, October 18, 2009 - 7:52 PMWeird and unpredictable and paradoxical-true.
That is what a bad ass is. Thinks on his/her own tangents-hard to predict-always seeing possibilities others can't.
How is that not bad ass?

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Mon, October 19, 2009 - 9:46 AMAre you kidding? Of course INFJ's are bad asses! I'm as "bad assed" as they come, by any definition.
I ride a motorcycle
lived on a sailboat
have flown a plane before
teach boating classes
studied Okinawan karate for several years (including tonfa use)
Have a basic understanding of saber fencing
scuba dive
kayak
travel internationally
supervise a bunch of people for the Gov't
know how to knot a tie three different ways
know when how to use every piece of fancy silverware a restaurant can throw in front of me (including chopsticks)
I speak English with and without a Southern accent (as needed)
Speak some Spanish and German, too.
I can do differential equations and design and build things out of concrete, steel, and timber
I direct bulldozers to knock down trees
I can operate a trackhoe (excavator)
I broke a machette chopping through the jungle to inspect a levee failure
I can identify poisonous snakes and plants
I know what to do if attacked by an alligator
I'm pretty well-versed in classical literature, music, and theatre
Play several musical instruments
Am an expert yo-yoer
Have experience with a variety of firearms
Do most of my own motorcycle/car/boat/home maintenance
Know how to do 120V/240V AC and 12V DC electrical wiring
Grew up doing air conditioning work
Do my own plumbing
And graduated number 1 in my department from engineering school
You know what, though? I'll bet everyone in this Tribe could come up with pretty dang impressive lists of their own. INFJ's are awesome. We're smart enough that we can do quite literally anything we want to and we are able to understand and relate to people better than almost anyone else. We're natural leaders and loyal followers. Anything anyone else can do, we can do better ;)
That's pretty badass if you ask me! -

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Mon, October 19, 2009 - 11:05 AMOh, my, you insist so much on it and you expect to be taken seriously :-D.
I gather the classic 'bad ass' image has to do more with ESTP than INFJ. Doesn't it? (don't opposites attract, Ed? :) -

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Mon, October 19, 2009 - 9:41 PMSee Ed's definition of bad ass. -
-
Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Mon, October 19, 2009 - 9:45 PM-Opposites do attract in terms of personality, but not character. Therefore any personality type has its own definition of bad ass. Both INFJs and ESTPs can be bad asses.
-Ed's definition is from an INFJ perspective and is therefore mainly in terms of INFJ, but can be extended to the general public if this INFJ is so great.

Mon, October 19, 2009 - 11:07 AMBTW, since you mentioned 'big names' .. many people don't see Obama as an INFJ. -

Not all INFJs are bad asses.-just a lot of them. -

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Mon, October 19, 2009 - 3:06 PMMmmmm, I don't really know. I don't really know even how to define that word, except to say that the initial characteristics that pop into my brain are usually a person who is:
outgoing
crazy, but kind of in a careless manner
impulsive
But I am not sure....maybe I am confused..........I don't think all INFJs have to be "goody-goodies" necessarily, either, that sounds awful boring and general....
and if Martin Luther King Jr. was a bad a, which I can see that now that you pointed it out, then I'd say yes, definetely, INFJs could be considered one..

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 7:23 PMI don't think we're bad asses, we're opinionated and stubbourn when need be or if we feel our rights are violated or unappreciated.
Aleirah's dictionary definition:
1. A person who is a jerk for no reason.
2. A smartass
3. A person who disrespects laws, rules and regulations because they feel like doing what they want when they want. -

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?

Re: Could INFJs be thought of as "bad asses"?
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 5:54 PMMight be me too.
I will admit, I can be this person.
So... can we call it being a "bad ass" now?
Because I have been called a few other things and I would much rather be called a bad ass for this behavior.
:D
future confrontations will end with - "Oh yeah...well Ed says I'm a BAD ASS so your WRONG!!!!"
:D
Love it! -
