What are people's thoughts on this? It's seems a bit out of body to me, I don't really get why. Who was the master mind behind this idea?

I think it was a transparent effort to counterbalance Obama's 'progressiveness'...you know, what with his skin color being slightly darker and all. @.@

"See? Look, y'all. I chose a WOMAN! Look how egalitarian I think! A WOMAN! I know, it's crazy! Oh, and ladies...we know you all vote as a pack, so TAKE THAT. She has kids...look...you have kids too. You have so much in common!"

And that whole fake pregnancy thing is just so 50's. I mean really? Does that still happen these days, where mothers will fake pregnancies for their daughters so that their 'reputations' aren't ruined?

I tell ya, can't wait until my generation takes power. Then maybe some of this nonsense will go away.

John McCain's wife is a beauty queen, so is his running mate.
What does that say about women's role in McCain's world?
She's been mayor of a village of 8,000! IMaybe she was president
of the local PTA. 'm sure she can cook moose in many differnet ways.
Her religion of choise is Assemblies of God, so speaking in tongues
is the main "sacrament" of her religion.

So, if John McCain should for some reason be incapacitated, we get this
19th century rural woman as our president. For all we know, she might
believe that woman's sufferage (voting) is progressive and ought to be
      repealed.

I'm not really surprised one bit, just as I'm not surpised by Obama's choice of a running mate. Candidates tend to pick people who make up for their perceived weaknesses.

Obama's "flaws": young, inexperienced (esp. foreign policy), black.
So who does he pick as a running mate? Older, white guy with lots of foreign policy experience.

McCain's "flaws": old, stodgy, "very white" male.
    His partner: younger, energetic, female.
It also has the "advantage" of appealing to Clinton-supporting women who said they were going to vote for McCain in retalliation for the Dems picking Obama over Clinton.

You know, I think that whole media spin about women Clinton supporters going to the side of McCain/Palin is a load of horse shit. Palin is the antithesis of Hilary Clinton; they could not be more opposite on every single issue...except they both have ovaries. Yet the media continues to spin this load of crap about a large section of the female (Clinton supporter) population that will vote for McCain now that Palin is his running mate. Well excuse me, but the last time I checked women as a whole vote on their principles and values, just like men, and we don't just vote for a candidate because they have ovaries. God, it irritates me!!!!!

She's the wildcard that we need. The yin for his yang ... or maybe its the other way around ... lol ... at any rate, she's MY governor, and I love her. I have driven in to work on the highway next to her ... and she's human, I promise. She's a breath of fresh air to stuffy politics because she's real, because she has problems, and deals with it like your average everyday common sense American. And she is in favor of ANWR. (Most Alaskans are) :)

You did ask for Thoughts though ... when Obamma makes a critical error by picking a experienced [old deadbeat] politician, i.e. Mr. Biden, McCain picks Sarah. Sarah has the capability of capturing the critical female voter demographics, and has worked great up here in AK for discouraging bipartisan politics, and is actually very opposed to special interests parties (as demonstrated numberous times by her veto, which she has made good use of ... including using against her own party). So, she's worth female votes, youth votes, republican votes, and just about all the other votes ... I think her most useful asset is her inexperience, and pure honesty. It will be hard to tarnish her intent, and impunge her character, especially this late in the election.

    lol ... Peace!

Hmm. That must be why the Republicans at the RNC
are repeating the mantra "the last 8 years have been
so great, we need to continue following in the President's
      wise footsteps."

Any benefits Sara Palin (at least as presented by Republicans)
might bring are dependent on her being President. She cannot
accomplish these amazing feats as Senate Prsident Pro Tem.
I guess they're just expecting her to have more than 8 years in
      the white house.

      Talk about cynicism.

Both sides want so badly to win the election they are arguing the cosmetic choices on animals. Any idea how many of our soldiers have been maimed during this foolishness? Yet, how many times is Charlie Gibson mentioned for interviewing Mrs Palin on the ABC promotions. I haven't heard the name of one Ground Zero rescuer or any word of Bin Laden's capture. But I did see Sarah and company in carefully constructed photo shoots in People and Vogue. Both sides need to address the issues and each other. The winner of one party can then pick the candidate of the other party as his VP. Is that too INFJ?

It's a work of pure political genius. It points the fingers at the democrats for not nominating Hillary or at least giving her the V.P. slot.
It galvanizes the Republicans populist white trash base. It provides a lot of entertaining diversion from the real issues by transforming the race into a personality contest and theatre. It puts the Democrats on the defensive yet again, by, "how dare they" attack a woman. Liberals are notoriously squeamish at confronting things they deem as not P.C.
It also divides a key demographic of the electorate.
Think the Clarence Thomas nominations and Anita Hill.
